Doug Coop's Commitments to Clark County District 1

Picture
Born in California, Coop was raised in Hawaii and traveled as a teen with a Top 40s band, sparking a lifelong passion for music and performing. Coop went on to work as an assistant general manager of Pacific Printers out of Honolulu and then 20 years as a national senior account manager at WestRock, consulting with major business accounts around the country.

Coop moved to Clark County in 2015 and, after retirement, became active in homeless outreach and community projects. Because of his long career helping businesses find innovative solutions to marketing experiences, Coop believes he is uniquely qualified to listen to and represent Clark County voters.

In 2020, Coop ran for mayor of Vancouver, focusing on family, freedom, and safety – principles he still believes are key for a thriving Clark County community. Married for 28 years to Darlene Coop, he has five grandchildren and is proud of their military service. For recreation, Coop enjoys ATV riding and camping. He also enjoys watching football and playing the guitar and piano for events.

Coop is focused and driven to work for Clark County residents.

“Clark County citizens are facing some crucial issues like homelessness, crime, traffic congestion and rising taxes. It is time to respond with solid solutions that make sense for our Clark County community,” Coop said.

On the last Saturday of every month you will find Coop at the Share House serving the homeless. He sees first hand the struggles at the heart of this community. Because of his community work, Coop is committed to improving the quality of life for all residents in District 1.

Coop believes the traffic congestion caused by the lack of vehicle capacity is harming the local economy.

”We need action to solve our Columbia River Crossing issues that are equitable for everyone in our community,” Coop said. “The astronomical price tag of $5 billion dollars proposed for the current project is not the answer. It will not solve traffic congestion or save people time. Furthermore, our low income residents cannot afford the double tolling proposed for the bridge and on I-5, and will be harmed the most by this proposed plan.

”Coop assures residents in District 1 that he is committed to working with other members of the County Council to bring cost effective, common sense solutions that work for all Clark County. This includes resolving public safety issues, including rising crime and homeless problems.
